What is your athletic background?
I have never been athletic. Was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma as a young kid and have always had the mindset that I would never be able to exercise. -
How long have you been doing CrossFit and where did you start?
I started CrossFit March 25, 2013, the Monday after my 30th birthday at Alvin CrossFit. -
What did you know about CrossFit before you came in?
I knew very little about CrossFit when I started. Just the little bit my husband told me when he came home after his 101 class back in August 2012. -
Which class time(s) do you attend and how many times a week did you come when you started AND about how many times a week now?
I have been attending the Ladies class at 6:30 pm three days a week. Hoping to add more days soon. -
What did you think after your first WOD and/or after your first week?
I was excited and scared when I walked in the first day. After the first WOD I was sore. When I walked in for my second class I thought “There is no way I’m going to be able to do anything tonight.” But after the warm up I felt great. By the end of my first week I was hooked! -
How does CrossFit compare to any other training you’ve done?
I’ve never had any other training before. It’s all new to me. -
Why did you start?
I started CrossFit because I had tried the home videos and working out alone, but there was no accountability. I needed something more. Needed the extra push. The “See you next time” to keep me motivated to keep coming. -
Why do you keep coming back?
I keep coming back because I’ve seen results and I like it! It’s a very positive atmosphere and I feel like I belong. When I miss, my body feels it. It’s my new addiction! -
What are your biggest accomplishment(s) or what are you most proud of? Go ahead, brag a little!
My biggest accomplishment so far is the dedication to keep coming back. I’ve never stuck with an exercise routine this long before. I always got discouraged and gave up. I have lost about 20lbs and about 10 inches over all. I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 10 dress. I finally feel comfortable in my own skin. I have confidence in myself that I didn’t have before. -
What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
Right now my favorite is the pull ups. I still haven’t mastered them but I have definitely proven to myself that I can do them. -
What is your least favorite CrossFit movement?
My least favorite is the snatch. I’m just not comfortable doing the movement yet. -
What are your strengths and weaknesses in CrossFit?
One of my strengths is pushing myself to keep going when I want to quit. One of my weaknesses is running. I have come a long way but still battling the asthma and thoughts in my head that I “can’t run”. -
Have you changed your diet since starting CrossFit?
I have changed my diet some. I don’t eat out as much and try to stay away from fast food as much as possible. Trying to eat cleaner. More fresh foods and less processed. -
What is your guilty pleasure/ favorite cheat meal?
Lupe Tortilla’s quesadillas -
What is your favorite healthy meal?
Grilled chicken with steamed veggies. -
What do you enjoy doing away from the box or tell us something else about yourself?
Spending time with my family. Being a mom! -
Any advice for new members?
All I can say is just keep going. You are only in competition with yourself. Even if you finish last, at least you finished.
