  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit and what was
your athletic background before CF, if any?

I did my CrossFit 101 for Beginners in August 2016 but started
coming consistently in November 2016. I played tennis in
high school and still enjoy playing.

  2. Is CrossFit different from what you thought it was
before you came in? How so?

I had a pretty good idea what CrossFit was from friends who were
members at other boxes. But I did have a preconceived thought
that it was mostly weightlifting with heavy weights but there’s so
much more to it than just lifting.

  3. How does CrossFit compare to any other training
    you’ve done?

Other than my tennis days, most of my exercise before CrossFit
was walking/running so there wasn’t much “training” since I
wasn’t walking or running to be competitive.

  4. Why did you start?
I wanted to lose weight and I needed to find something to keep my
interest. I knew there would be different workouts every day and I
knew I would be pushed further than I could push myself in
    a regular gym.

  5. Why do you keep coming back?
Honestly, I’m not a morning person, but I’ve grown to love my morning class and my day doesn’t feel right if I miss. I’ve lost the weight and I’m getting stronger every day. I also love the accountability I have with my coach and other athletes/friends in the box.

  6. What are your biggest accomplishment(s)/ what are you most proud of?
    * Weight loss – 44 pounds and counting!
    * Dropped 4 pants sizes

    * Completely off high blood pressure medications
    * When I first started, I could barely finish a 200-meter run without being completely gassed. I’ve now completed a half marathon (13.1 miles) and the Spartan Beast (12-15 miles with obstacles).
    * I can string together a few double-unders now and toes-to-bar (two movements I’ve been working on and slowly adding to workouts). I can do a 30 inch box jump and most recently conquered an unassisted pull-up!

  7. What is your favorite CrossFit movement?
I enjoy box jumps, wall balls, slam balls, and kettle bells. Any cardio movements.

  8. What is your favorite healthy meal?
I’ve been meal prepping since last summer and my favorite healthy meal right now is a jalapeño lime chicken.

  9. What do you enjoy doing away from the box or tell us something else about yourself?
I enjoy spending my free time with my daughter and all the friends I’ve made at the box. I love being on the water in the summer and by a bonfire in the winter. I’m also a big Texans fan! Some may say I’m slightly obsessed with JJ :-)

  10. Any advice for new members?
Don’t be intimidated by the CrossFit name/brand. Know what your goals are and communicate those with the coaches. And come join me at the 5:00 am class!! :-)
