The CrossFit Open is Over.. Now What!?

First I want to say congratulations to everyone that decided to join a team this year. Last year we had 28 people sign up and this year we had 41 athletes... and many of you have been coming for less than 6 months so that's a huge accomplishment in and of itself just to accept that challenge!

The Open serves several purposes. For the vast majority of the CrossFit population, it's a personal endeavor meant to, as the CrossFit Open tagline states, "Prove Your Fitness" in your local box. But it's much more than that. It's a chance to prove to yourself that you can do things that you didn't think you could do. We had several people attempt workouts with weights they never would have tried had the demand not existed, we saw several PRs DURING the workouts (Sheri, Vicky and Reina come to mind) and we even saw people do things for the first time like Doralou getting her first chest to bar pull-up or John getting his first bar muscle up in a WOD (the house erupted when that happened!). Y'all rose to the occasion every week!

These very difficult workouts are tests. They aren't just physical tests but mental tests. How many times did you look at the workout HQ released and have to pick your jaw up off the floor? Then you went right to work and you did it! How many times during the WOD did you want to quit?.. but you didn't. How many times did you internally cuss me for no repping you? OK, keep that one to yourself, hahaha!

When you test your physical and mental fortitude in the manner in which CrossFit demands, you build toughness not only in the gym, but outside the gym as well. CrossFitters take supreme confidence into every task they tackle cause in the back of their mind they know there's pretty much nothing in life that's gonna be harder than trying to do 150 wall balls in less than 10 minutes or trying to do Fran in less than 7 minutes.

If you've been around a while, you've probably heard me say, "This is hard. I know it's hard. If it was easy everyone would be in here." CrossFit training is no joke and not everyone you encounter has the grit to subject themselves to this type of training. But you're different. You've put down the excuses and found a reason to regularly train your body to be stronger than the day before. Whether you realize it or not, someone in the gym has admired your ability to do something they can't do... yet. The things we do can seem mundane after a while but the fact remains, this is very hard work and fitness fades within 2-3 weeks of stopping training. Ever taken a long vacation and NOT exercised.. then wondered what truck ran over you after your first workout back? I have. It's horrible!

The Open workouts should have found everyone's weakness. We all have them and we all have things to work on. We're always happy to have our athletes come in early or hang around after class to work on goats (things they suck at). Ask a coach what you can do. We'll be happy to guide you and if you need something more in depth, we can customize a plan through Personal Training.

If there's one takeaway I want you to have from the Open, it's the fact that you are stronger and more capable than you give yourself credit for. Leave ego at the door. Leave doubt at the door. Leave all negativity at the door and come in and soak up as much knowledge as you possibly can. Let's keep getting strong together!
