January/ February Monthly Challenge

Do these weeks fly by or what!? Yesterday marked the end of our 1st monthly challenge for 2018 so we hope your year has started with a BANG! The January challenge was to do 10 push-ups, every hour on the hour for 10 hours..100 per day.. 3,100 for the month. Push-ups make us better at, well... push-ups obviously but they also help us on wall balls, HSPUs, overall shoulder stability (great for all sorts of activities) and of course punching stuff with more power and who doesn't wanna be better at punching stuff!

So how did everyone do? I know my man Tyler was keeping me honest and I'm pretty sure he beat me by a couple hundred reps but that's OK. These are personal challenges, not a competition... but who are we kidding? We're CrossFitters and competition helps keep us motivated! Today through Saturday we'll do our re-test... and don't forget to log your results in SugarWOD under Benchmarks/ Gymnastics/ Push-ups: Max Reps.

One of the unforeseen improvements that happened with me is that my bum shoulder has gotten stronger. At the beginning of the challenge I couldn't even hang from a bar, much less expect to do T2Bs or pull-ups because of the pain. This is a 25 year old injury that has reared its ugly head again and been causing me grief for MONTHS, but the newly improved strength has really helped out so win/ win for coach! I just wanted to get better at doing large sets of push-ups. I think it's great when we realize unforeseen benefits from doing the types of things we do!

I'm looking forward to getting to the gym today to tally my days. I know I didn't get to 3,100 but I am MUCH stronger on push-ups and I'm anxious to see how my re-test goes! I fully intend to keep trying to hit 100 per day.

So, on to Feb. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to establish one new good habit or break one bad habit. At the end of the month we'll take testimonials to see how your life has improved by making a positive change. Many of you know I have a love for Blue Bell. That "love" can be borderline addictive for me and it sets me back in the gym so for Feb, my challenge to myself is to stop eating it.. if only for a month, just to see how it affects my gym life. Each 1/2 gallon of Blue Bell, regardless of flavor, is about 3,600 calories or 1 pound of weight, never mind the fact that it's laced with High Fructose Corn Syrup, the devil of all sweeteners! If I don't have to fight that off each week, I should see some dramatic shifts in the gym!

February is the shortest month of the year so this seemed like a great month to roll out this challenge.

Our goal with these challenges is to improve some aspect of your life. We're mainly concerned with improvements in the gym but this challenge can be anything that will add value to your day! Maybe you want to get in the habit of prepping your weekly meals on Sunday. Maybe you want to get all the laundry done before dinner every Saturday. I know a couple ladies in the gym, SanJuana & Mercedez are going to try and run/ walk 800 meters a day and work up to a mile be the end of the month. That's an outstanding goal for non-runners!!

If we can help and encourage you to make positive changes in your life, then we are accomplishing our mission! We want you to live healthy, happy lives that are unencumbered by outside forces. We aren't solving world hunger over here but we are fulfilling one of our core values, which is to help people in any way we can. We look forward to seeing what February does for you... and the rest of 2018!

Get in where ya fit in.
